Macaws are beautiful birds that are native to Central and South America.  They require large cages and lots of toys and wood to chew to keep them happy.  Many people purchase these birds because they are so beautiful and do not realize that they can live to be 80-100 years old.  They can be very loud and very messy and can inflict a serious bite.

Nikki (on the right) is a Shamrock Macaw.  She had eight homes in five years.  She became a typical bird seen as a problem bird; loud, messy and a biter.  She was sold at a yard sale and even owned by a truck driver that lived in his rig.

Tiki Bird on the left is a Blue and Gold macaw and the most popular and recognizable of the macaw species.
